Did you know we offer a weather seal for our up and over garage doors?

Garadors Bottom Weather SealIt’s cold, it’s wet and it’s windy outside, and since garages are often used for a variety of purposes; from home offices to man caves, a rubber weather seal can help to protect the items stored inside your garage. They can be applied to the top or the bottom of an up and over garage door, helping to keep the dust, dirt and weather outside.

A durable rubber weather seal for homeowners with an up and over door on their garage can help to provide a better seal around the garage opening. The small gaps around the edges of the door can be closed with a rubber weather seal and therefore help to keep all that winter weather outside. As a result, doors with rubber weather seals could potentially contribute to minimised heat loss inside the garage.

CE Marking for Garage Doors – What, Why, Where?

CE Marking logo

What is CE Marking?
The CE Mark is a mandatory conformity mark for certain products (including garage doors) sold within the European Economic Area after 1985. For Garador garage doors there is a label clearly applied to the back of the door, containing a CE logo, the installers name, the door number and the installation date.

Why do it, what happens if you don’t do it?
It is important your garage door installer does it to comply with EU legislation. For example, it is against the law to install a power operated door in the UK without complying with the EU Machinery Directive.

It is illegal as a manufacturer, importer or reseller to supply an electric operator within the EU unless it is CE marked. A garage door also requires a CE mark under the Construction Products Regulations. Once you have a garage door and an operator, each carrying their respective CE marks, as an individual you can fit them yourself and you don’t need to do any more paperwork. However if, as part of your business, you are being paid to fit a door with an operator (or an operator to an existing door) then you also need to complete a “declaration of conformity” under the EU Machinery Directive.

Where can I get some training on how to do CE Marking for Garador garage doors?

Garador currently offers CE Marking training for all its installers on their installation training courses.

New Enhanced GaraRoll Roller Door Design Now Available

Wider guide rails now 110mm, not 100mm wideOur GaraRoll garage doors are one of the best engineered roller garage doors currently available on the market, and with a new enhanced door design they are now even more durable and efficient. During 2015, our product design team worked to make key changes to deliver a more water-tight door motion, a better sealed header box and a more maintenance friendly design.

The width of the guide rails which run vertically down each side of the door have been increased to 110mm and two more brush seals have been applied to each guide rail, resulting in a more water tight door motion.

New hinge connector feature on Garador roller doorWith a new hinge connector and sealing component added to the roller box, which fits at the head of the garage door opening, the new GaraRoll roller box is better sealed and easier to access for any maintenance work.

From January 2016, all GaraRoll roller doors will be manufactured with this new design. To view the full range of Garador roller garage doors, please visit the Garador website.

Garador Staff Support British Heart Foundation with ‘Wear It, Beat It’ Day!

Garador staff at Wear It Beat It BHF Charity EventLast Friday Garador staff ran their own Wear It, Beat It fundraising charity day, in support of the British Heart Foundation. The charity fundraising day was spearheaded by Garador’s very own, Kim Kerswell, who recently discovered she had a heart condition and has since had a pacemaker fitted. Kim found the British Heart Foundation to be very supportive, providing her with a booklet at the hospital and information on their online community page to help her to learn more about her condition.

The British Heart Foundation undertakes a tremendous amount of research into pacemaker technology. Kim feels that their work has really helped her, so she wanted to give something back to the charity, by raising money to contribute to their research on pacemakers.

The staff at Garador helped setup a cake sale, with lots of lovely homemade cakes including cupcakes, lemon cakes, coffee cakes and even a red velvet cake! We also did a raffle to win a fancy box of chocolates and a bottle of wine for Valentine’s Day, along with a prize for the most imaginative red outfit worn on the day going to Liam Harris and Dave ‘Bert’ Thomas! All in all, everyone had a great time and were delighted to help raise money for such a worthwhile cause with £243.70 going to the British Heart Foundation.

According to the British Heart Foundation, heart and circulatory diseases take the lives of more than 400 people in the UK each day. To find out more, please visit the British Heart Foundation’s Wear It, Beat It website.

Top 5 things to consider when buying a garage door

Garador offers advice on choosing a garage doorWhen you are looking to buy a new garage door, it’s sometimes tricky to know where to start. So we’ve created a list of top points to consider. You can view all the garage doors we offer on the Garador website, and if you want to find out more about the specifics of each door type why not view our garage doors explained page.

1. What the garage is being used for.
It’s an obvious one, but is sometimes overlooked… Is your garage used as a home office and therefore needs the garage door to be insulated? Or perhaps it is being used as a studio or business enterprise and would therefore require some natural light from windows in the door. Maybe you want to save space inside the garage, and would therefore be better off with a compact solution such as a roller door or canopy up and over door which does not have tracks running back into the garage. There’s lots to consider here…

2. Materials.
Garage doors are supplied in steel, timber, aluminium and GRP materials. Choosing the right material is likely to be driven by its appearance as well as practical issues such as how durable it is and how much maintenance is required. Steel is the most cost effective option and timber can provide a very natural, unique look. Our GaraRoll roller doors have aluminium laths which have corrosion resistant properties.

3. Security.
Security is often the most important consideration for homeowners, as they may store valuable goods in the garage or the garage maybe integral providing easy access to the house. All Garador up & over, sectional and GaraRoll roller doors have solid security features, and Garador also offers a range of Secured by Design accredited doors with additional security features.

4. Safety.
You don’t want the garage door to break or come crashing down on your car, so it’s important to choose one with built-in safety features. All Garador garage doors are engineered to comply with British Safety Standard BS EN 13241. For example, our canopy up and over doors have a built-in anti-drop device.

5. Budget.
It’s the elephant in the room, but is still an important consideration. A local Garador stockist/ installer will be able to help you choose the right garage door for your home and get it fitted, all within an agreed budget.

Check out www.garador.co.uk for more information on all our garage doors.
