New Enhanced GaraRoll Roller Door Design Now Available

Wider guide rails now 110mm, not 100mm wideOur GaraRoll garage doors are one of the best engineered roller garage doors currently available on the market, and with a new enhanced door design they are now even more durable and efficient. During 2015, our product design team worked to make key changes to deliver a more water-tight door motion, a better sealed header box and a more maintenance friendly design.

The width of the guide rails which run vertically down each side of the door have been increased to 110mm and two more brush seals have been applied to each guide rail, resulting in a more water tight door motion.

New hinge connector feature on Garador roller doorWith a new hinge connector and sealing component added to the roller box, which fits at the head of the garage door opening, the new GaraRoll roller box is better sealed and easier to access for any maintenance work.

From January 2016, all GaraRoll roller doors will be manufactured with this new design. To view the full range of Garador roller garage doors, please visit the Garador website.

Garador Staff Support British Heart Foundation with ‘Wear It, Beat It’ Day!

Garador staff at Wear It Beat It BHF Charity EventLast Friday Garador staff ran their own Wear It, Beat It fundraising charity day, in support of the British Heart Foundation. The charity fundraising day was spearheaded by Garador’s very own, Kim Kerswell, who recently discovered she had a heart condition and has since had a pacemaker fitted. Kim found the British Heart Foundation to be very supportive, providing her with a booklet at the hospital and information on their online community page to help her to learn more about her condition.

The British Heart Foundation undertakes a tremendous amount of research into pacemaker technology. Kim feels that their work has really helped her, so she wanted to give something back to the charity, by raising money to contribute to their research on pacemakers.

The staff at Garador helped setup a cake sale, with lots of lovely homemade cakes including cupcakes, lemon cakes, coffee cakes and even a red velvet cake! We also did a raffle to win a fancy box of chocolates and a bottle of wine for Valentine’s Day, along with a prize for the most imaginative red outfit worn on the day going to Liam Harris and Dave ‘Bert’ Thomas! All in all, everyone had a great time and were delighted to help raise money for such a worthwhile cause with £243.70 going to the British Heart Foundation.

According to the British Heart Foundation, heart and circulatory diseases take the lives of more than 400 people in the UK each day. To find out more, please visit the British Heart Foundation’s Wear It, Beat It website.

Top 5 things to consider when buying a garage door

Garador offers advice on choosing a garage doorWhen you are looking to buy a new garage door, it’s sometimes tricky to know where to start. So we’ve created a list of top points to consider. You can view all the garage doors we offer on the Garador website, and if you want to find out more about the specifics of each door type why not view our garage doors explained page.

1. What the garage is being used for.
It’s an obvious one, but is sometimes overlooked… Is your garage used as a home office and therefore needs the garage door to be insulated? Or perhaps it is being used as a studio or business enterprise and would therefore require some natural light from windows in the door. Maybe you want to save space inside the garage, and would therefore be better off with a compact solution such as a roller door or canopy up and over door which does not have tracks running back into the garage. There’s lots to consider here…

2. Materials.
Garage doors are supplied in steel, timber, aluminium and GRP materials. Choosing the right material is likely to be driven by its appearance as well as practical issues such as how durable it is and how much maintenance is required. Steel is the most cost effective option and timber can provide a very natural, unique look. Our GaraRoll roller doors have aluminium laths which have corrosion resistant properties.

3. Security.
Security is often the most important consideration for homeowners, as they may store valuable goods in the garage or the garage maybe integral providing easy access to the house. All Garador up & over, sectional and GaraRoll roller doors have solid security features, and Garador also offers a range of Secured by Design accredited doors with additional security features.

4. Safety.
You don’t want the garage door to break or come crashing down on your car, so it’s important to choose one with built-in safety features. All Garador garage doors are engineered to comply with British Safety Standard BS EN 13241. For example, our canopy up and over doors have a built-in anti-drop device.

5. Budget.
It’s the elephant in the room, but is still an important consideration. A local Garador stockist/ installer will be able to help you choose the right garage door for your home and get it fitted, all within an agreed budget.

Check out www.garador.co.uk for more information on all our garage doors.

New FrontGuard Plus Doors Added to the Range!!

Garadors FrontGuard Plus 800 and 810 front doors

Ultra-thermal efficiency and high security is what the FGS 800 and FGS 810 FrontGuard Plus modern entrance doors deliver. With the addition of these two new door designs, this modern range of entrance doors now looks far more comprehensive with a choice of styles to match any home.

These modern front doors have been expertly designed to match many of Garador’s designer garage doors. The FGS 800 and the FGS 810 are the perfect complement to the 201 design range garage door and the 203 design range garage door respectively.

The ultra-modern design isn’t just superficial, it continues throughout the door with an extremely well-engineered design with 5 point security locking and RC2 security equipment for extra security, double rebate on the door seal, triple rubber seal on the bottom of the door, robust steel door fascia, 65mm thick high density PU foam in the door panel, thermal breaks inside the frame and the list goes on... The FrontGuard range also now includes the option of new technical features such as opening your door with a hand transmitter, finger scanner and transponder for added convenience.

Looking beyond the functionality of the door to its aesthetic impact on the property; both the FGS 800 and FGS 810 provide a great first impression. The square windows allow light into the doorway for a light and airy feel inside the property, whilst the sand blasted glass helps to maintain some privacy. Both the garage doors and front doors feature brushed stainless steel elements and a range of perfectly matching colours, including the exclusive titan metallic colour for an ultra-modern look. There are 16 colours to choose from on FrontGuard and FrontGuard Plus doors.

The thermal and acoustic insulation is fantastic for these entrance doors, with U-values down to 0.93 W/m² K. U-values are a measure of how effective a material is as an insulator. Thus, they are a great choice for homeowners seeking an entrance door that helps to keep the heat inside their home and their energy bills down.

Choose from a range of standard and purpose made sizes. Find your nearest stockist on the Garador website.

What is Retractable Plus gear?

One of the most common questions we get asked is what is Garador’s retractable plus gear, and what differentiates it from retractable gearing, or even canopy gearing? In this blog post we’ll help to demystify this type of operating gear and consider it’s functionality as well as some of it’s most beneficial features.

garador retractable plus gearing

Garador’s Retractable Plus operating gear is available on Up & Over garage doors. Retractable Plus gearing employs specially designed lifting arms and bottom spring brackets, along with many tried and tested components to create a drive-through width that is substantially greater than that provided by standard retractable gear. The Garador retractable plus operating gear also conforms to British Standard BS EN 12604.

Retractable Plus Gearing is Available for door widths up to 7’6” wide:

7’0”

6’6”

6’4”

1260mm

1105mm

1055mm

Some of the key benefits of a retractable plus door:

  • Specially designed link arms and non-protruding springs provide extra drive through width for narrow openings.
  • Multiple spring cassette with lifting arm trap protection, to help prevent getting your fingers trapped.
  • Rotary Slam latch system making closing easier and locking far more secure.
  • Horizontal tracks have a secure parking position when door is in the open position, to prevent the door from uncontrolled closing.

Many customer’s simply aren’t aware of this gearing option and therefore don’t think to choose it, even though it can provide extra drive through width; which is a real advantage over other gear types when your garage has a narrow opening. If your garage is quite a tight fit for your car, then retractable plus lifting gear could provide you with that little bit of extra space that makes all the difference. Check out our Up and Over garage door range to find a garage door that’s perfect for your property.
